Planning Yunnan: Altitude, Culture, and Better Route Choices

Yunnan is often oversold as a province where you can casually add more towns. In practice, too many bases weaken the trip.

Keep it focused

Choose one to three core bases, then build depth around them. That usually creates a better experience than trying to cover every well-known town.

Respect altitude

If Shangri-La is part of the route, build in gentler pacing. Altitude may not ruin the trip, but ignoring it can make the strongest scenic section feel harder than it needs to.
