Best Bars in Hangzhou: Cocktails Beyond the West Lake View

For Hangzhou bars, choose Chimney for an award-listed cocktail room, Fever for a smaller seasonal-drinks stop, The Guts for dinner with cocktails, or MILL as a visitor-reported lead for a solo counter seat. Choose the drink or room first, then decide how it fits your West Lake day.

September 3, 2026 update: Stars at Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou Centre currently states that it is temporarily closed for a new concept and renovation. We have left it out of the active shortlist. Older rooftop recommendations do not establish that it has reopened.

1. Chimney: the strongest cocktail anchor

Chimney is No. 91 in the official Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026 extended list. An interview with founder Ellen Xu describes its neighborhood approach and gives the address 524 Zhongshan Middle Road — 中山中路524号.

This is the clearest starting point when you want a bar with a distinct cocktail program, rather than a stop chosen for a distant skyline. Ask about the current seasonal menu. If you are interested in the upstairs Bar Eg concept, specify that when booking; do not assume any table at Chimney is the same experience. Keep dinner within a sensible route of the confirmed entrance.

2. Fever: a smaller room for seasonal drinks

Original reporting in City News Service’s Hangzhou guide describes Fever as a low-lit cocktail room with seasonal ingredients and lists 20 Taihong Lane — 泰宏巷20号. It is a useful alternative if you prefer a more compact evening to a large hotel lounge.

Choose it for the drink and atmosphere rather than a promised lake view. Ask which menu is being served, whether reservations are accepted and how late the kitchen or snacks are available if you plan to eat. A seasonal reference in an article is a reason to ask what is fresh now, not a guarantee that last season’s cocktail can still be ordered.

3. The Guts: food matters as much as drinks

Two visitor reports, from March 2026 and April 2026, praise both food and cocktails at The Guts. That makes it a practical lead for a group that wants to settle into one venue instead of moving from restaurant to bar.

The reports describe different parts of the room, so request the seating area you actually want and confirm kitchen hours separately from closing time. We have not verified an operator-published current address or menu. Use 杭州 The Guts to locate its current listing and get the pin from the venue before booking a car.

4. MILL: a solo-traveler counter lead

A March 2026 Rednote visitor describes a comfortable solo visit at MILL’s bar counter. It is a narrower recommendation than claiming the whole room is always quiet or that every evening has the same social atmosphere.

If that style appeals, search 杭州 MILL 酒吧 and ask for a counter seat, the current menu and the evening’s music. Its precise address and operating schedule remain to be confirmed directly. For a short trip with no room for uncertainty, Chimney or Fever offers a more clearly documented starting address.

How can you combine Hangzhou bars with West Lake?

Use the Hangzhou destination guide to place the evening within your wider city plan.

Finish your lake walk before dinner, then choose one bar using its actual address. Chimney is a cocktail destination with a street location; Fever is another specific urban stop. Neither should be sold to your group as a panoramic West Lake lounge. The Guts can simplify the plan when dinner and drinks in one place are more useful than another transfer.

If a view is essential, ask a venue to identify the view from the seat you are reserving. “West Lake area” can mean a neighborhood rather than a view of water. For outdoor seating, check the forecast and the indoor alternative. Stars is not a current fallback until the hotel confirms reopening.

Can you visit a bar before the train back to Shanghai?

For visitors taking a same-evening train, work backward from the station arrival you need and keep the bar visit short. Our China train guide explains the station and boarding steps; a last order time is not a sensible way to plan your return train. An overnight stay allows a less constrained dinner and cocktail evening.

We compared operator and award sources, original local reporting and dated Rednote experiences. The list is editorial, not a formal ranking or a claim of firsthand visits. Confirm menu prices, deposits, smoking arrangements and any reservation limit directly. If Hangzhou is part of a longer east-China route, continue with our Shanghai cocktail bars guide.

Practical answers

Frequently asked questions

Which Hangzhou bars should I shortlist?

Chimney is the award-listed cocktail choice; Fever suits a smaller seasonal-drinks evening; The Guts combines food and drinks; MILL is a counter-seat lead from a 2026 visitor report.

Is Stars at Four Seasons Hangzhou Centre open?

The official Stars venue page stated that it was temporarily closed for a new concept and renovation when checked on September 3, 2026. Confirm a reopening directly before planning a visit.

Does a Hangzhou cocktail bar necessarily have a West Lake view?

No. A city-center cocktail room and a lakeside or high-floor view venue are different choices. Confirm an actual view from your reserved seat rather than assuming it from a neighborhood label.
