TenPayGo Launches for Visitors to China in 2026

TenPayGo is now officially introduced as a standalone payment app for international visitors to China. Built by the Weixin Pay team, it brings familiar overseas payment methods to merchants in the Weixin Pay network. Visitors can register with an email address, add an eligible international card or other supported payment method, and pay by scanning a merchant’s QR code or showing a payment code.

What is TenPayGo for visitors to China?

TenPayGo is designed around a familiar travel problem: you arrive in China and need to pay for a meal, a ride, a hotel, or an attraction, but you do not have a mainland Chinese bank account. The app connects eligible overseas payment methods to the Weixin Pay merchant network in one dedicated interface.

Registration starts with an email address. The launch announcement says a phone number and a mainland Chinese bank card are not required for the basic sign-up path. As with any payment app, a card issuer or account review may still request its own verification. Set up your preferred payment method before you travel so you have time to resolve any issue.

How do you set up and use TenPayGo?

1. Download TenPayGo. Open the official iPhone listing or official Android listing. Check the Tencent Technology developer name before entering personal or card details.
2. Register and add a payment method. Sign up with your email, complete the verification shown in the app, and add an eligible international card, supported overseas e-wallet, or Apple Pay where available.
3. Pay at a participating merchant. Scan the merchant’s Weixin Pay QR code, or open your own payment code for the cashier to scan. Review the amount and any displayed service charge before confirming.

The September launch announcement names UnionPay, Visa and other international card networks. It also describes a staged connection of overseas e-wallets, including ShopeePay and Starryblu. The announced goal of about 60 connected wallets by the end of 2026 is a rollout target, not a list of wallets already available to every user. Check the payment choices shown in your own app.

What else can TenPayGo help with?

TenPayGo’s launch also introduces tools for moments between payments:

• Translation for daily encounters. The announced “circle to translate” tool helps interpret text on menus and signs. Check names, prices, and ingredients with the merchant when they matter.
• Shenzhen transit. A ride code developed with Shenzhen Tong is intended for Shenzhen metro and buses without phone-number registration. The September announcement described a gradual trial expected in late September 2026. Look for the feature in the app before treating it as available for your trip.
• Shenzhen tax refund access. A link to departure tax-refund services is being developed with ICBC’s Shenzhen branch and other partners. Eligibility and the refund process still depend on the participating store and applicable rules.

These services have different rollout schedules. The app’s payment function is the main reason to install it today; Shenzhen transit and tax-refund access should be checked in the current app before departure.

What should you prepare before traveling?

Download only from the verified store listings. Keep the email used for registration accessible, make sure your card issuer’s verification method works while abroad, and enable mobile data for the QR checkout. A small test purchase after arrival is the best way to confirm that your particular card and account work at a merchant.
