Nanmen: choose the city taproom, not an assumed factory visit
Nanmen’s official brewery profile identifies it as a brand founded in Chengdu with its own brewing operation. That makes it a useful starting point if you want a locally rooted brewery rather than only a bar selling imported cans.
Its profile places the brewery in Qionglai, also identified in a 2023 Sichuan food-regulator record. Those records establish a production-location reference, not a public-tour timetable. Qionglai is a separate outing from a central Chengdu evening; ask the operator about visits before traveling there.
For a short stay, I would search 南门精酿 成都, confirm a currently operating city branch and ask which beers are made by Nanmen. Start with a style you recognize, then ask whether there is a local-ingredient or seasonal beer that contrasts with it. A long drinks list is less useful than understanding what the brewery itself makes.
Sleeping Dogs and 螺丝钉: smaller-room alternatives
A July 2026 independent account describes Sleeping Dogs as a west-city discovery, with beer, service and value as the reasons the writer returned to neighborhood bars. That is a taste report rather than a fixed price list. Save Sleeping Dogs 成都 精酿 and ask your hotel to verify the current map result before arranging dinner nearby.
A January 2026 account identifies 螺丝钉咖啡精酿 and describes fruit-focused choices and an indoor environment the writer liked. Use it as a lead if you want a cafe-and-beer format rather than a late-night club. Ask about the current taps and indoor smoking policy directly; one visit cannot establish how the room will be managed on another evening.
These leads are most useful when close to the day’s final neighborhood. A small specialist bar may focus on guest beers instead of brewing its own. Ask who made the beer if discovering Chengdu brewers is your main purpose.
What beer works with a Sichuan dinner?
Choose by your preferences and the meal’s intensity. A crisp lager or wheat beer can be an approachable starting point with a spicy meal; a very bitter IPA may be exactly what an enthusiast wants but need not be the default for every diner. Ask for the current beer rather than an old menu pairing.

What should you check at the bar?
Read the volume, alcohol strength and price together. Ask whether a tasting sample or smaller pour is available and whether the kitchen is serving. A fruit-heavy drink can still be strong, and a beer described as “fresh” does not tell you the brewer or when the batch was made.
